Wendy Tomlinson Q and A Interview
Can you share your back story with us, a bit about your childhood?
I grew up in rural Lincolnshire, I was a real tomboy and my favourite thing to do was dig for worms and push my dog around in a pram. Yes, I did dress him up too.
Now I’m a qualified life coach, law of attraction practitioner and EFT master practitioner.
I was coaching full time for around 7 years but in 2017 I stopped all of my coaching work to fully focus on my blog, my YouTube channel and creating content to help people create a business and life they love.
Were you a determined child or has that developed?
Yes, I think I’ve always been determined. Maybe as a child I’d have been called stubborn. I’ve never been great at following the rules and just doing things because I was told it was what I was supposed to be doing.
Can you share something about yourself that is not widely known?
I’m a Gemini, the sign of the twins. I definitely have two sides and that often causes conflict. It’s almost like I’m disagreeing with myself. But, hey, it keeps life interesting.
How and when did you know you wanted to become an entrepreneur?
I think very early on after leaving school. Even during my training, I became the manager of the nursery school I worked at, I then changed career a few different times and I always very quickly ended up in a managerial role, so the next step to actually have my own business was very easy. I’ve had several businesses over the years . I remember once my sister pointing out that most people didn’t think like me. Until that point, I thought they did. I have always been able to look at something and see a business opportunity.
Tell us about your business…
I’m now a full time content creator. I’m not even sure that’s a thing but it’s the best way to describe my business. I blog, create YouTube videos and content via courses, downloads etc. I work completely from home (unless I fancy a coffee shop break). I focus on helping people create a business and life they love.
What did you give up to get to where you are today? What did you have to sacrifice?
I think it was money. Because I was so determined to create a business I love, I always said no to things that were not a match for my ideal business and life. This meant I often turned down well paid work because it didn’t fit in with my vision for my ideal life. It was sometimes hard and at that time I had a poor grip on money management. Now, I’m so pleased I worked this way because now I absolutely love the business and life I’ve created.
I remember as a new coach being told by a very experienced coach that I had to sacrifice time with my son to build a successful business. I thought this was dreadful advice. My driving force to be successful in the early days was definitely working from home to be available for my son. This was not something I was ever willing to sacrifice and I always recommend that people are clear on what things are non-negotiable for them, what they are not willing ever to sacrifice.
What’s the hardest thing you’ve had to do?
Talking on a radio show in the middle of a big storm. I was so nervous that I was shaking.
What are your goals for 2017 and beyond?
Continuing to build my blog and YouTube channel. I knew this year was going to be a full on time family wise, so keeping things simple has really been powerful for me this year.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? Do you have any big Goals?
In all honesty at the moment, I am absolutely loving my business so much, I really see myself doing the same day to day things in my business, just more of it. Not more work. More subscribers, more readers, more income… I’d really love to get to 1 Million YouTube subscribers, I’m a long, long way off that right now but it’s a goal.
