I Am Unique & Believe You Can Books!
by Sue Williams
Can you share a bit about your back story with us.
I retired from a career in career information, advice and guidance for adults aged 51. My parents both died within a year of each other, so I was feeling a little lost and directionless. I became inspired by the entrepreneurial world, embarking on a series of courses in coaching and spirituality. I also explored my creativity, and to my great surprise, after I started writing “Morning Pages” a technique of free writing 3 pages of A 4 each day, my writing began to emerge in rhyme. I wrote a poem called “Believe” which inspired me to go on and compile two anthologies of true stories on the topic of self-belief, and to develop an award winning Believe Oracle cards app.
How and when did you know that you wanted to write a book?
I first suggested compiling an anthology of stories for an event a coach was running entitled “Believe in Your Dreams, Your Legacy, Your Power.” Although this project didn’t happen, I did write the Believe poem at that time. It was on re-reading this poem a few months after I first wrote it that I realised I was meant to write and compile a book of true stories on the topic of self-belief to inspire women.
Tell us about your books.
There are two anthologies of true stories on the topic of self-belief – Believe You Can Succeed, and Believe You Can Face Your Fears and Confidently Claim the Life You Desire. These include stories written by myself and other women, mostly entrepreneurs, who share how they have faced and overcome adversity, or have found the courage to achieve their dreams. Each story starts with an inspirational quote, and concludes with tried and tested exercises, hints and tips that the authors have benefited from. There are also a number of poems to reflect the value of creativity and creative self-expression. I have also published a third book, I Am Unique, which is a collection of poetry to inspire self-belief, which achieved Amazon best-seller status.
What were the hardest things you faced whilst you were writing it?
Harnessing my own and the experiences of others in such a way that would engage and inspire other women.
What were the best things you experienced during the process?
It was wonderful to see how willing the authors were to share their true-life experiences in a generous way, with the primary aim of helping others.
What’s next for you?
I am excited to be focusing on 3 new books aimed at women in midlife who are facing life changes. One will be a third collection of Believe stories written by women aged 50+, another a book aimed at inspiring women in their fifties to write a book, and the third a self-help book for women in midlife. So, pretty busy!
Can you share your top 3 #booktips.
1) Ask yourself: “what is the book that I would most regret not writing?” This is the book to start writing!
2) Choose a style of book that suits the message that you want to convey. There are a number of different formats – for example, I chose the anthology format because I am a connector by nature, and love to inspire others.
3) Develop a regular writing practice. If you don’t currently write, it is a good idea to try a technique such as the Morning Pages, or other forms of journaling.
